Never too big to enter the Business of the Year Awards

It’s time for the region’s big hitters to enter the TheBusinessDesk.com North West Business of the Year Awards 2023 celebrating the best of the best of businesses across the entire region.

The awards recognises firms of all sizes and from a wide range of sectors.

And here in the North West we know that we have some of the largest organisations across the UK which have their main operations or headquarters here and we want to hear from you!

From AO.com to Booking.com and Matalan to B&M Bargains, the dynamism and diversity of the North West’s largest companies contribute hugely to the region.

Large firms in the North West have been creating thousands of jobs, they’re expanding their operation both regionally and internationally, and they play a major role in the region’s economic growth.

They not only offer a wealth of resource of skilled labour but are often leading the way in innovation, R&D and helping to attract wider investment to the region too.

Last year’s business awards saw a diverse range of businesses enter the Large Business (251+ employees) category.

They included law firm gunnercooke; energy marketplace Love Energy Savings, fast growing restaurant chain Mowgli Street Food, telecommunications company TalkTalk and polyurethane foam manufacturer The Vita Group, demonstrating the breadth, depth and strength of large firms in the North West.

Last year’s overall winner was Bolton-headquartered Love Energy Savings which is one of the UK’s leading business utilities marketplaces.

Operating for 15 years the company was founded as a comparison and switching site for energy customers and has expanded, developing innovative proprietary technology that has enabled it to diversify its product offering to now include water, telecoms and waste.

Led by chief executive Phil Foster, revenues have grown year on year as Love Energy Savings continues to reap the rewards of ‘smart planning and continual innovation.’

Judges noted that the company was not only a  ‘leader in its field’ but has ‘delivered massive growth and remained ahead of the competition.’

Alex Turner, joint managing director of TheBusinessDesk.com, said: “We know there are more companies like Love Energy Savings that are making a huge difference to the region and we want to recognise and celebrate your achievements.”

The Large Business of the Year category is being sponsored by CMS.

Howard Gill, Corporate Partner, CMS, said: “A good staple of high quality large corporations across a range of sectors is vital for the economic well-being of a region like the North West.  That was true when the region started its journey as an economic powerhouse; it is even more the case today as the region’s economy has grown and diversified.

“Large companies – whether local, national or international – are the foundation of a strong economy.  They generate local wealth in so many ways, not just in terms of salaries to tens of thousands of employees, but also in terms of supporting smaller related industries, research and development and occasionally providing the hub around which whole urban communities are built.

“The NW is lucky to be home to hundreds, if not thousands, of genuinely world class large corporations, either home grown or with the region as its UK hub.  And these companies cover every conceivable sector: technology, media, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, infrastructure, health and leisure, fashion, retail, agriculture and many more besides.

“CMS is delighted to support the NW Business of the Year Awards, but we are particularly excited to sponsor the Large Business category.  This gives us a chance to acknowledge and celebrate the special contribution large companies make to our region.”
