Specialist cyber risk management business Mitigo has signed an exclusive affinity deal with the Institute of Chartered Accountants England and Wales (ICAEW) to offer its 21,000 member firms cyber risk management services.

Following an extensive due diligence process, Mitigo were selected for their expertise and experience with professional service firms.

Andrew Stott, ICAEW’s director of corporate partnerships & operations, said: “Cybercrime is sophisticated, and defending against it is now a specialist job. Mitigo can give ICAEW members real visibility of their cybersecurity risks, which means they can close any gaps, meet legal and regulatory responsibilities, and sleep at night.”

Co-founded by Lindsay Hill, the former chief executive of Citation, the employment and health and safety services firm, Mitigo is based in Heald Green near Manchester Airport and works for several professional services bodies, including the Law Society, The Bar Council, the Royal Institute of British Architects, Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors, the Institution of Structural Engineers, amongst others.

Hill, now chief executive of Mitigo, said: “Cybersecurity should be at the top of your risk register and requires board level attention. Yet we still see some firms merely hoping that they have the right protections in place, not having undertaken and documented proper cybersecurity risk assessments, and without any independent assurance to prove they are safe. We look forward to working with the ICAEW, to give their members visibility of their cyber risks, and the means to control them.”

Co-founder David Fleming worked in the banking sector creating a secure, digital and customer facing services. He grew the LBG brands (Lloyds, Halifax and Bank of Scotland) to a combined total of 10 million users and turned around the Co-Op Bank’s capability to deliver a ‘digital first’ model where digital technology & security, customer service, and payments were integrated into a secure cloud based digital platform.

The other co-founder, Alastair Hall, chief operating officer, worked with Hill at Citation.

Mitigo provides protection against cyber attacks (including ransomware and email account takeover), operational resilience, data security and legal and regulatory compliance. The service covers risk assessment, technology testing, cyber awareness training, and governance. Mitigo also provides an incident response and investigation service.
