Industrial unit purchase by online retailer will create 100 jobs

Online Home Shop's Tyldesley site

Up to 100 jobs are expected to be created following a property deal for almost £3m.

Property consultancy, Legat Owen, has disposed of a 53,975 sq ft industrial facility in Tyldesley, Manchester, to The Online Home Shop.

Featured in the Sunday Times Top 100 list of fastest growing private companies, The Online Home Shop will use the new property to meet growing demand.

The decision to take an additional 50,000 sq ft comes just two months after Online Home Shop’s existing 70,000 sq ft new warehouse, on Wardley Industrial Estate in Worsley, had its official opening by Greater Manchester mayor, Andy Burnham.

The latest warehouse comprises a detached unit fronting Bankfield Road with two access points into a car parking area to the front and to a yard and service area to one end.

The building had formerly been occupied by ThyssenKrupp for the past 15 years but was in need of an upgrade.

Legat Owen’s building surveying team had been acting on behalf of the landlord, Urus Property, to manage the exit of ThyssenKrupp with the intention of undertaking a full refurbishment of the unit.

Legat Owen successfully agreed a dilapidations settlement with ThyssenKrupp, however, on undertaking a targeted marketing campaign, a sale was agreed for the unit in its existing condition.

Matt Pochin, director at Legat Owen, said: “Online Home Shop is a real success story for Manchester and we’re pleased to have supported the company in its continued expansion.

“This is an excellent example of the added value a multi-disciplinary practice can bring to the table. Our investment and building consultancy teams worked closely together and completed the sale in under 20-working days.”
