Big wins for Talos360, MusicMagpie, Kinaxia and Sciontec at Business of the Year Awards

Janette Martin, chief executive of Talos360, was last night awarded the prestigious title of CEO of the Year at the North West Business of the Year Awards held in Manchester.

She thanked the team at Talos360, which provides software as a service for recruiters and HR professionals, and said: “Nothing is achieved without the very best team around you. I am so fortunate to work with the people I do, I have an exceptional team. We care about our customers, we care about our products and we care about each other.”

Steve Oliver, founder and chief executive of Music Magpie was named as the Ambassador of the Year, not only in recognition of his remarkable role in leading MusicMagpie from a start-up to the stock market, but for being a solid champion of recycling and sustainability. He has also served as the chairman of the Stockport Economic Alliance, a high level organisation of businesses in the up and coming Greater Manchester borough, and the founder of a charity to get people who’ve been homeless into a job.

He said: “Being Ambassador isn’t an individual award, it’s a collective award. I have been blessed to have had amazing people around me.

“Never be afraid of failure – it makes you hungrier to succeed the second time.”

The winners in each category topped an impressive shortlist for the awards, highlighting successful, innovative and growing companies from across the region.

The awards are led by TheBusinessDesk.com in partnership with CMS, LDC, PwC, RBC Brewin Dolphin, and Robert Walters and celebrate the achievements of businesses of all sizes. Gilbanks were an award category sponsor.

A rigorous judging process has seen all of the companies which entered get a visit by members of our judging panel, before the shortlist was chosen.

Guest speaker was Lou Cordwell MBE, founder of MagneticNorth and the chair of the Greater Manchester Business Board, who spoke about the confidence of the North West and the vital role businesses are playing in building an innovative new economy.

More than 400 guests attended the awards ceremony at The Midland, Manchester on Wednesday evening (18 October).

TheBusinessDesk.com’s North West editor, Michael Taylor, said: “A huge congratulations to all our winners and finalists.

“The highly rigorous judging process put all of those shortlisted through their paces and the judges faced really tough calls in not only choosing winners, but selecting who would make it onto the shortlist.

“Businesses had to commit to a process that has really showed the very best of the North West and how the economy is facing up to a huge number of challenges.

“The judges heard not only incredible stories of resilience and innovation, but also how the spirit of togetherness and fairness runs through so many businesses.”
