Ken Clarke to speak at IoD conference

SHADOW business secretary Ken Clarke will be the keynote speaker at the Institute of Directors (IoD) annual conference in the North West.

Clarke, a former Conservative chancellor, is expected to discuss the forthcoming general election, the challenges facing businesses and how his party plans to tackle national debt and taxation.

Darrell Matthews, regional director of the IoD in the North West said: “All eyes are on the Conservative party at the moment as election, and their moment of truth, looms large.

“The IoD in the North West has always looked to invite people central to the political debate to these conference events, and this year is no exception, offering business leaders from across the North West the opportunity to put their views to key politicians and have their voices heard.”

Other speakers include businesswoman Karren Brady, IoD director general Miles Templeman and Manchester United’s chief operating officer Michael Bolingbroke at the event on March 23 at Old Trafford.

Previous IoD conferences have featured Tony Blair’s former director of communications Alastair Campbell and the current shadow chancellor George Osbourne.
