A Chester-based environmental consultancy specialising in asbestos testing and inspection has been acquired by Reading-based Celnor, for an undisclosed sum.

Celnor provides complementary service offerings in the testing, inspection, certification and compliance (TICC) arena.

With four offices across the North East, North West, Yorkshire and South East, APEC Environmental provides comprehensive asbestos surveys and testing to a variety of sectors across the UK, counting a number of household names as clients.

Celnor Group is a newly established platform for testing, inspection, certification and compliance businesses. Since October 2023, it has been supported by private equity investment from Inflexion.

APEC was advised on the sale by Dave Hilton and Luke Seymour (M&A), Alex Kingston (SPA advisory), Rebecca Park (tax) and Ollie Maddock (financial outsourcing) from Mazars.

Melissa Welch and Chris Ross from Mills & Reeve Corporate team also advised on the deal alongside their colleagues across departments. Mazars was the lead financial advisor on the deal.

Dave Hilton, partner at Mazars, said: “This deal represents a fantastic result for the shareholders of APEC, and it has been a pleasure to advise on this deal for this long standing client.

“It’s great to see the owners achieve this result and I wish them continued success over the coming years. I am sure the business will continue to go from strength to strength under Celnor’s ownership alongside Simon and team.”

Peter Keeling, director and shareholder of Apec, said: “We have had a positive working relationship with Mazars for over five years. The team exceeded expectations by ensuring the process was as smooth as possible with their constant support.”
