Green light for 68-bedroom Lancashire residential care home

Plans for a 68-bedroom residential care home in Clitheroe have been approved.

Ribble Valley Council gave the green light to the plans submitted by Preston-based Wrightcare Developments.

The two-wing care home, together with infrastructure works and landscaping, will be developed on the site of the former Higher Standen Farm, near Swardean Way in Clitheroe and will be the first care home for Wrightcare Developments, a new arm of the Eric Wright Group.

The two-storey building will include 68 bedrooms with private wetrooms, internal and external communal areas, a library or games room ‘bar’ area and a hair salon for residents as well as on-site parking provision.

Eric Wright Construction is expected to start work on site in spring and complete by summer 2025.

CGI of proposed scheme

The Wrightcare division intends to build, retain and operate a number of new care homes in the North West in the coming years.

Jeremy Hartley, chief executive of the Eric Wright Group, said: “With an ageing population and increasing instances of dementia and its associated complex needs, it is important that we ensure the provision of top class facilities and exceptional care.

“This fits well with the ethos of the group and The Eric Wright Charitable Trust to positively contribute to the areas in which we work.”

Owned by The Eric Wright Charitable Trust, The Eric Wright Group includes construction, development, civil engineering, water, house building and facilities management services across Lancashire and the wider North West, developing schools, homes, healthcare facilities and transforming many of the region’s town and city centres with mixed-use development under the Maple Grove Developments arm of the business.

The development is near the new Ribblesdale Primary School and a green corridor linked to new homes at the Half Penny Meadow development and is part of the Standen strategic housing site, which has been allocated by the council for mixed-use development.
