Strategic choices to be aired at Rainmakers conference

Steve Byrne, chief executive of Travel Counsellors, will be speaking at the first Rainmakers conference.

Having led a first buyout of the company from the founders, Byrne has also overseen huge strategic projects and a secondary buyout that allowed Equistone to successfully exit.

He will be in ebullient mood after the business has enjoyed a strong start to 2024 with group sales in January of £125 million, up 12 percent on the previous year and up 68 percent on pre-pandemic levels, marking it as the best January and best ever sales month in the company’s 30-year history – ending a record quarter.

The top five leisure destinations in January were Spain, Cruise, USA, Greece and United Arab Emirates, while for corporate, the USA, Domestic and Saudi Arabia all proved to be top of the list for clients.

Critical to the business has been investment in talent and in a digital platform.

Byrne said: “At the heart of everything we do is our commitment to looking after our people and ensuring that our global community feel as supported as possible. We do this by empowering business owners to scale in a way that suits them, all turbocharged by our personal, digital platform and the knowledge of the 2,000-person strong community. We’re now looking forward to the rest of the year and maintaining our momentum beyond January as we continue to delight more customers and clients with exceptional travel experiences for a truly memorable 2024.”

The first Rainmakers Conference will be held at The Point conferencing facilities at the Emirates Old Trafford on March 20, 2024.

Tickets can be purchased here.

The event is being organised by TheBusinessDesk.com and the partners in this event believe passionately that the jobs created, specialisms developed, and the entrepreneurs unleashed give the Rainmakers community the right to a seat at the table and a voice in the debate on the economy of the North.

The conference will be an opportunity to not only celebrate the contribution from funds raised and deals created, but also to look to the future at the challenges ahead.

The event has been forged alongside the key partners from private equity and specialist financiers in the North, and backed by elite teams of advisory businesses, the event will bring together funders, entrepreneurs, business leaders to focus on opportunities and challenges.

The partners in the event are Endless LLP, NorthEdge, Palatine, TDC, KPMG, Shawbrook and Rowan, the headline partner.

The day will feature keynote speakers and panel discussions addressing key challenges such as the mobilisation of pension fund assets into investment opportunities, impact investing, building a talent pool in corporate finance, creating the pipeline of investable businesses with potential.
