£10m plans to convert Chester office block into high end residential scheme

A former Chester office block is to be converted into a high end mixed use scheme in £10m plans by Blueoak Estates.

The Chester-based developer has acquired Centurion House on Northgate Street.

Located within the city’s famous city walls, the former office complex has been used by various businesses and organisations through the years, but has remained partially unoccupied for more than 12 months.

Blueoak is currently developing plans that will see the structure of the building retained, while the interior will be reconfigured to create 28 modern apartments, each with parking and a private residence garden, along with a commercial outlet on the ground floor.

Set in the heart of historical, yet vibrant, Chester, Centurion House is a short stroll from nearby attractions including the Storyhouse theatre, the award-winning New Market and Picturehouse cinema.

Iain MacLean, Blueoak Estates managing director, said: “We’re incredibly excited about our latest acquisition. The sheer size of the building, the potential it presents in terms of redevelopment, and its excellent location, make this a fantastic opportunity to create something quite special.

“Converting commercial buildings into residential homes is an area in which we have significant experience and expertise and we’ll be applying this background and knowledge here. By taking the existing structure and reinventing the building, we are significantly minimising environmental impact.”

He added: “Further, we see this scheme as something that will help support local economy and community by increasing availability of quality homes for sale in the heart of this great city. Whilst we watch the high street slowly decline, we must make use of buildings such as this and invest in schemes that address a current need – something we believe Centurion House undoubtedly will do, moving forward.”

Work is currently under way and the show house is expected to be ready for viewing in spring this year.
