Burnham meets the Rainmakers

BVCA chief executive Michael Moore with Andy Burnham

Greater Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham has met with senior private equity executives and investors to explore avenues for driving private capital investment into Manchester, the second largest hub for global investment in the UK.

Attending the round table were Laura Blakey and Paddy Dowdall from the Greater Manchester Pension Fund.

Dowdall will be speaking at theBusinessDesk.com’s Rainmakers event on 20 March 2024.

Also around the table was Joe Manning from inward investment agency MIDAS, who will also be speaking at the event.

The discussion, organised by the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA) delved into overcoming barriers to investment in nations and regions, with a spotlight on Greater Manchester and its potential as a prime investment destination.

In 2023, 188,000 jobs in the North West were supported by private capital in addition to the 210,000 jobs that were indirectly supported through supply chains and consumer spending.

Also contributing to the discussion were: Lucie Mills from NorthEdge; Simon Maine, Managing Director at Brookfield Asset Management; BVCA chief executive Michael Moore; Giles Moore, regional development manager at Par Equity; Stuart Veale of Beringea; and Mia Forti of the BVCA public affairs team.

The first Rainmakers Conference will be held at The Point conferencing facilities at the Emirates Old Trafford on March 20, 2024.

Tickets can be purchased here.

The event is being organised by TheBusinessDesk.com and the partners in this event believe passionately that the jobs created, specialisms developed, and the entrepreneurs unleashed give the Rainmakers community the right to a seat at the table and a voice in the debate on the economy of the North.

The conference will be an opportunity to not only celebrate the contribution from funds raised and deals created, but also to look to the future at the challenges ahead.

The event has been forged alongside the key partners from private equity and specialist financiers in the North, and backed by elite teams of advisory businesses, the event will bring together funders, entrepreneurs, business leaders to focus on opportunities and challenges.

The partners in the Rainmakers event are Endless LLP, NorthEdge, Palatine, TDC, KPMG, Shawbrook, Rowan and DSW.
