TDC partners with TheBusinessDesk.com to bring inaugural Rainmakers Conference to Manchester

The North has an abundance of potential, playing home to some of the UK’s leading universities, whilst also acting as a top destination for businesses to thrive. This helps to attract top talent from around the UK, making us an attractive place for emerging newcomers to kick start their careers in the region. That’s why we’re delighted to be partnering with TheBusinessDesk.com for its inaugural Rainmakers Conference in Manchester this March.

The conference will be supported by a number of the key players from across the regional advisory, investor and wider business communities. It will showcase the unique opportunities, successes and challenges across the Northern region, as well as feature discussions on growth in the North and what we can do to propel this further.

As a Manchester-headquartered business, we are passionate about being part of the continued growth of the region’s business landscape. It’s not often that regionally based debt funds are able to attract the same level of funding and attention as those in London. However, we are proud to have built a platform of over £1 billion, pulling in international investors, including leading global investment firm, KKR, all from our Manchester base. In turn, this has allowed us to build a business with investment management skills that are normally only found in London and as a result, allowed us to be a partner for success to ambitious mid-market businesses across the UK.

The North holds vast amounts of potential for both businesses and investors. Over the last ten years we’ve seen a marked change to the regional financial ecosystem. We’ve seen new funders and investors set up shop in the city, along with some of the UK’s, and indeed global key players, creating new bases in Manchester. This has catapulted the region onto the national stage, showcasing our ability to stand toe-to-toe with some of London’s best-established organisations. This has all contributed to the region’s transformation into a hub for both investors and businesses to grow and thrive.

In turn, this has also created the conditions for talent attraction and retention in the region. While previously we’ve seen a ‘brain drain’ down to London, with many seeing the capital as the only place to build a career in finance, we’re now increasingly seeing graduates staying up North. With such a strong financial community on our doorstep, this has created an indestructible regional economy that young people can and want to establish their careers.

However, in recognising the incredible strength of our region, there is still more that can be done to drive this growth further. Continued investment is needed for the likes of improving transport links, further enhancing educational facilities, and encouraging business innovation, all ensuring we remain at the cutting edge of the UK economy.

At TDC, we are proud to have been part of this journey across the North, building an impressive portfolio of ambitious businesses and management teams, along with building a significant investment platform otherwise not seen outside of London. Therefore, we are looking forward to collaborating with likeminded Northern leaders to spread the word about growth in the region and what we need to do to ensure we evolve further.

Working alongside partners including KPMG, Squire Patton Boggs, NorthEdge and Palatine, the Rainmakers Conference will focus on the opportunities and challenges of building a dynamic and competitive economy in the North. These key players from regional advisory, funding and business communities will also discuss the major contributions they have made to the drive and ambition of the Northern Powerhouse, how to make the North more attractive to global institutions, the next generation and more.
