What price Old Trafford? Man United to offer naming rights to stadium
The new shareholders of Manchester United are considering selling the naming rights to their Old Trafford stadium to a commercial sponsor.
Part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his leadership team from chemicals giant INEOS have been ringing the changes since taking a stake on Christmas Eve.
They have reportedly written to all staff requiring them to stop working from home and offered everyone the option of voluntary redundancy.
The club has also hiked up the price of hospitality packages and is mulling huge rise in ticket prices.
Specialist sports news site The Athletic is also reporting that United have held exploratory talks with major US financial institutions, including Bank of America, as they work out how to fund the rebuilding of Old Trafford, or a totally new stadium on the adjacent site, similar to how Tottenham Hotspur redeveloped their home.
As reported on TheBusinessDesk.com United’s financial results revealed that as of the end of the March 2024 the club’s debt now totals £653.3m, which Ratcliffe’s £238m cash injection has sought to reduce due to soaring interest rates.
