Beyond the Music returns in October for second act at Aviva Studios
Beyond the Music, the music industry conference that aims to be the UK’s version of the iconic SXSW in Austin Texas is returning to Manchester for a second year, but moving across the city to Aviva Studios this October.
The brainchild of Oliver Wilson, son of the late great Tony Wilson, the event will include gigs, twelve summits, four keynotes, ten networking sessions, talks, and exclusive announcements from businesses and voices in music, tech and content.
Andy Burnham, an enthusiastic music fan and an attendee of SXSW is amongst the first speakers confirmed for the 2024 edition which will run from the 9th to the 11th October 2024.
Last year Burnham brought along fellow Metro Mayors Steve Rotheram and Tracy Brabin for a forum event on what role leading local politicians could play in boosting cultural industries.
Also appearing will be soul singer Rebecca Ferguson, Tony Harlow (Warner Music UK), left-wing author Grace Blakeley, Matt Wilkinson (Apple), Dan Chalmers (YouTube), Jen Smith (CIISA), musician turned politician Tom Gray (The Ivors Academy), Zelda Perkins (Can’t Buy My Silence), Erinch Sahan (Doughnut Economics Action Lab), and Laura Harper (Lewis Silkin).
Other topics include a look at the current broken economic model and a discussion of urgent alternative solutions.
Beyond The Music will also turn its attention toward the future impact of AI on the music industry, discussing what regulation and legislation is necessary and asking “Where’s Our AI Copyright Law?”.
Special networking events will give attendees the opportunity to meet each other, build relationships and ideas following the lively discussions This year from AIM, MMF, BPI, Musician’s Union, PRS/PPL, Gameopolis, Manchester Music City.
