Building work has begun on the 4,700 sq ft Big Bakes attraction in Manchester as part of the national roll-out of the baking concept.

Select Interiors (Cheshire) was appointed as principal contractor for the project which includes raised access flooring, design and build of a mezzanine within the bar and restaurant area.

It also includes the supply and installation of the iconic Big Bakes marquee where guests enjoy an award-winning, 90-minute baking experience in the fully equipped baking tent.

There’s a new theme every month. Ingredients ready to go, participants bake in pairs across 12 baking stations with a Head Baker on hand to guide and assist.

This is the fourth Big Bakes venue in the UK, following on from two in London and one in Birmingham.

The Big Manchester Bake is located at 4 New Bailey, by Salford Central Station in Manchester city center. It is a striking building as it stands, but visitors will be transported into a slice of baking heaven on arrival, it is promised.

Guests will enter the space through a pantry with shelves full of fun baking elements and then step through a fridge door into the event itself.

The conceptual designs for the space are from Ellis Designs and Select Interiors has added its technical design expertise and produced the technical designs for the bespoke mezzanine which is unique to the Manchester attraction.

This area offers 18 covers for guests as well as a space for corporate events or meetings.

The restaurant area boasts 52 covers in total and includes a bar area with 12 covers in a hexagonal seating layout and a large faux tree as its centre point. The whole experience will emulate a summer’s day in and around the baking marquee.

The 14-week build includes the full fit-out from shell and core of the space including power, lighting, HVAC, plumbing bespoke joinery, general joinery, branding and graphics, decoration and theming, shop front, washrooms and kitchen.

Carl Brown, founder of Select Interiors (Cheshire), said: “Whilst we have designed and built many hospitality venues, working on a visitor attraction like this is a first for us, and we can’t wait to see the final results.

“We have worked closely with the team to ensure the designs met, or were adapted to meet, building controls regulations and this has meant that we have had to work fluidly on this project.

“Now the build has started we have just a few weeks until completion and the finish on the fit-out will be of premium quality and one that we are proud to work on.”

Adam Chaudhri co-founder of Big Bakes, said: “As we bring our award winning baking concept to the nation we always try to partner with businesses that match the positivity and energy we are famous for.

“The Select team have demonstrated a real passion for immersive entertainment and a professionalism and pragmatism needed in commercial projects like these. We can’t wait to launch this October and trust the team at Select to deliver a stunning finish to the exacting standards they hold themselves to.”

The Select Interiors (Cheshire) team, alongside Carl, includes Martha Lorains (Operations Director), Stephen Ball (Head of Construction), Jay Bulut (Project Manager), Nick Mulrooney (site supervisor), plus a site team of joiners, decorators, plumbers, dry liners, floor layers, tilers amongst others.
