CMA enquiry puts deal to buy Wigan based MacDermid on hold
An agreed deal for German print giant Xsys to acquire rival MacDermid Graphics Solutions for a reported £248m-plus has been referred to the Competition and Markets Authority.
With a base at Wigan, Element Solutions Inc said MacDermid was “non-core to the overall group’s long-term strategy”.
While the deal was announced “subject to regulatory approval and the usual closing conditions” the process could now drag on until the first half of 2025.
Element Solutions president and CEO Benjamin Gliklich had described Xsys as “a great home for its excellent team”.
MacDermid manufactures photopolymer plates and equipment used in flexographic printing.
The Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is inviting comments to ascertain whether the deal will result in a “substantial lessening of competition within any market or markets in the United Kingdom for goods or services.”
