Public consultation launched on wellness-focused 133-apartment residential scheme
A public consultation has opened on plans to transform a disused Baptist chapel, on Rochdale Road, Manchester, into a health and wellness-focused residential development providing 133 one- and two-bed apartments.
Cynergy Wellness Residences will retain the façade of the historic former chapel building.
The consultation on the proposals is open for three weeks, until Monday, October 21.
The site is located on the corner of Rochdale Road and Sharp Street and sits on the edge of Manchester city centre. While the majority of it is currently occupied by the disused chapel, the remaining portion serves as a temporary car park.
The proposals seek to deliver 133 high quality one- and two-bedroom apartments, thoughtfully designed with the wellbeing of residents in mind.
The homes would be set within a part-20, part-23 storey tower and incorporate an innovative blend of wellness science and bespoke services, reflecting Cynergy’s commitment to fostering physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Facilities would include a gym, spa, social areas, co-working space, concierge-manned reception, secure cycle storage and a communal roof terrace.
In addition to the residential units and wellness amenities, the development would include a ground floor commercial unit, helping to activate the streetscape and adding to the vitality and vibrancy of the area.
Cynergy envisions this space being occupied by a local business, underlining its commitment to supporting local economic growth.
A defining feature of this project is the careful integration of the former Baptist chapel into the design. Although unlisted, the chapel is recognised as a local heritage asset with significant architectural and historical value.
Cynergy’s plans ensure the chapel will be preserved as part of the street frontage along Rochdale Road, with its original scale and character retained in the ground floor space. By maintaining the chapel’s presence, Cynergy aims to preserve the cultural fabric of the neighbourhood while delivering a dynamic new addition to the city’s residential offering.
Simon Clarke, Commercial Director at Cynergy Wellness Residences, said: “This project embodies our vision of creating wellness-focused homes that not only serve the individual needs of our residents but also respect and enhance the fabric of the local community.
“By blending the historic charm of the chapel with modern wellness living, we are delivering a development that reflects the best of both worlds – honouring the past while building for the future. We invite the local community to join us in shaping this vision through the consultation process.”
