NYK doubles in size in historic Liverpool building

JAPANESE logistics company NYK has doubled the size of its Merseyside office in the historic Port of Liverpool Building.

The company has leased a 4,400 sq ft refurbished office suite in the building from property group Downing and doubled the number of people it employs in the city to 29.

Downing has carried out extensive refurbishment work on the company’s new suite, which was originally home to the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board’s senior management offices and boardroom.

The project required full listed building consent due to the particularly ornate nature of the suite’s features and includes restoring the vaulted ceiling, creating a new breakout space and linking the suite to the building’s new centrally-managed, eco-friendly heating and cooling system.

Robin Ellis, senior agency surveyor at Downing, said: “NYK is a long term tenant of ours and we are delighted to accommodate the company’s growth within the Port of Liverpool Building.

“Our investment in the Port of Liverpool Building has delivered high quality modern office space while preserving the heritage and character of the building. 

“This deal is further proof of the importance of having a diverse and quality commercial office offer in Liverpool in order to attract new jobs and investment in the local economy.”

NYK is one of the world’s largest transportation companies, operating more than 770 ships and employing more than 50,000 people.
