Leading North West entrepreneur advisor Victoria Price has secured damages from Daily Mail owner Associated Newspapers after two articles were published earlier this year that contained “false private information” about her.

Price’s relationship with billionaire businessman and co-owner of EG Group and Asda, Mohsin Issa, was splashed over the newspaper and its website in February.

The two articles “contained some private and intrusive details, and some false private information about Ms Price’s personal life, as well as her relationships and religious beliefs”, her legal team told the High Court.

She had been forced to confirm the relationship ahead of publication because of media pressure and subsequently started legal action against the publisher for the misuse of private information.

“I chose to stay silent at the time but behind the scenes I took a stand against this unacceptable form of journalism which has caused me and my family much distress,” she said.

Zuber and Mohsin Issa of EG Group won EY’s overall UK Entrepreneur of the Year award in 2018

Price joined Alvarez & Marsal earlier this year as head of private capital after 17 years at EY. She had been heavily involved in the firm’s Entrepreneur of the Year programme, which was won by Mohsin and his brother Zuber in 2018.

In the High Court, Price’s legal team read out a prepared statement that said: “The Defendant [Associated Newspapers] has agreed to withdraw the articles and not to repeat the information contained in them, as well as to pay her legal fees and damages which she is donating to a charity of her choice.”

In a separate statement after the court hearing, Price said: “I have donated the damages and a proportion of my legal fees to charities that are close to my heart and will make a difference to young people in a region I care about. It doesn’t make it ok but I’m glad to know that worthy causes will be positively impacted by the ordeal.

“Today’s statement in open court makes clear that I will not tolerate unwarranted invasions of my privacy or false reporting and I am pleased that it concludes this awful chapter.”

Associated Newspapers has been approached for comment.
