Japanese fashion brand set to open in city centre retail hub
Japanese fashion group, Uniqlo, has taken 25,000 sq ft of retail space at Liverpool One, the centre’s owner, Grosvenor, has announced.
The store is set to open early next year alongside Paradise Street’s line-up of flagship stores.
The retailer previously operated a store in Speke, South Liverpool, before it was closed several years ago.
The substantial double-height unit will allow Uniqlo to create a showcase space. The brand will join the street’s series of anchor stores, including BOSS, JD and Goldsmiths.
Rob Deacon, Director of Asset Management at Grosvenor, said: “Uniqlo is yet another international fashion powerhouse taking a showcase space on Liverpool One’s Paradise Street.
“Creating a bold, compelling hub of best-in-class international brands has long been our strategy, playing to the needs and wants of our diverse mix of domestic and international visitors, and we’re thrilled to be welcoming Uniqlo to Liverpool for the first time.”
The new Liverpool One store will follow the retailer’s trademark experience-led style, implementing its considered approach to layout and space to create a seamless shopping experience.
The space will house Uniqlo’s signature high quality womenswear, menswear and kidswear collections, as well as its iconic range of bags and other accessories.
Innovative features will also be integrated into the new store, including its self-service checkout areas and dedicated collection points. With longevity and versatility at the forefront of Uniqlo’s ethos, the new store will also offer the brand’s clothing repair, alteration and recycling services to help extend the life of Uniqlo clothing.
Alessandro Dudech, COO at Uniqlo UK, said: “As Uniqlo continues to expand across the UK, we are dedicated to selecting the best locations to be the home of our brand.
“Investing in Liverpool, a leading UK shopping destination, was a natural next step, and Liverpool One was the obvious choice, given the unique opportunity to open a prominent, showstopping space on Paradise Street.”
He added: “We’re excited to continue to open in new cities and introduce our Lifewear to the people of Liverpool for the first time, we look forward to connecting with our customers next year.”
The news of Uniqlo’s signing follows the recent announcement that global beauty brand, Sephora, is to take 7,500 sq ft of space in a cornerstone unit at a key entrance to South John Street.
Joining it will be the largest-ever multi-brand flagship store from TFG London, delivering its Hobbs, Phase Eight, Whistles and Inside Story brands across a footprint of 12,000 sq ft, also located on South John Street.
Metis and CBRE acted for Liverpool One. Paddy McCormack & Co. acted for Uniqlo.
