Build to Rent development secures planning permission in Manchester

A new £70 million sustainable build-to-rent (BTR) development in Manchester city centre will go ahead after being given the green light by planners.
Proposals by property investment and development company Zephyr X for a 23-storey residential scheme at the corner of Carnarvon Street and Cheetham Hill Road were granted detailed planning consent in a unanimous vote by Manchester City Council’s Planning and Highways committee yesterday (Thursday, November 21).
The proposals by Zephyr X include 237 one and two-bedroom apartments and a ground floor commercial unit.
Construction of the design-conscious development of new homes for rent on land bound by Cheetham Hill Road, Carnarvon Street and Gibson Place, is expected to begin next year, according to Zephyr X managing director Graham Haydon-White.
He said: “Our development offers an exciting opportunity to support the ongoing regeneration of this increasingly vibrant corner of Manchester, helping to meet the established demand for high-quality accommodation in the city centre.
“We are very grateful to Manchester City Council for supporting our vision to deliver this fantastic new build-to-rent residential development at Cheetham Hill Road. We are looking forward to appointing contractors and starting on site next year.”
The building has been designed by award-winning Manchester-based architects Hawkins\Brown. It will form part of the emerging residential cluster around the Great Ducie Street, Green Quarter and Red Bank area.
