Padel revolution arrives in heart of Cheshire footballer belt
An operator of padel courts backed by former Everton and Manchester City player Joleon Lescott is to open a new club in heart of the Cheshire footballer belt, with a club at Booths Park in Knutsford.
The expansion comes on the back of its existing location in nearby Wilmslow and planned new clubs at TraffordCity and in Gloucester.
Sports commentator, and former Manchester City player Lescott, who as well as being an investor in The Padel Club is a keen player, said: “It’s brilliant that the Club is expanding in Cheshire, at Booths Park. I play often at the Club in Wilmslow as it is local and sociable. I’m looking forward to more courts at Booths Park – to attract more padel players to play and compete with.”
Kris Ball, CEO of The Padel Club, said, “Cheshire has been the first home of The Padel Club, and the recent expansion to TraffordCity and more recently, Gloucester underscores our serious desire to be the leader in padel – not only in Cheshire – but across the country.”
The business has partnered with property owner Bruntwood to create four new covered courts.
Booths Park already has an integrated fitness and wellbeing offering, including Peloton bike studio.
A planning application will be submitted shortly.
James Tootle, Head of Retail & Leisure at Bruntwood said: “Padel is a sport that’s popularity is rising across the UK, and we’re excited to be working with The Padel Club to create these new courts for our customers and the wider community to enjoy.
“This initiative shows our dedication to creating great workspaces that support a healthy work-life balance.”
The Padel Club, launched in July 2022, has had Knutsford in its sights from the start.
“We are going to build a facility that the people of Knutsford can be proud to use and call their own. The team at The Padel Club will work to bring together as many of the secret ingredients that make our vision for padel so special and unique, making it accessible to all. The customer experience is essential for us, and we feel that between the coaching, the courts, and the facilities, we have something to be overwhelmingly proud of,” said Kris Ball.
