National Lottery funds wider Northern roll-out of entrepreneurial coaching for inmates

A Bolton-based initiative that encourages prison inmates and those on probation to consider self-employment on release has been granted National Lottery funding that will see it extend its services into prisons in North Wales, Yorkshire and the North East.
The expansion will benefit up to 300 individuals over the next 18 months, said Entrepreneurs Unlocked that was set up in October 2019.
The project will deliver 18 ‘Inspiring You’ sessions designed to empower participants with the knowledge and confidence to explore self-employment opportunities.
These sessions will introduce participants to the self-employment landscape, helping them understand the entrepreneurial skills needed to succeed and participants will leave with a clearer understanding of how self-employment can be a viable and rewarding option for them.
The programme aims to deliver tangible outcomes, including improved confidence, resilience, and entrepreneurial skills, as well as a reduced risk of re-offending.
David Morgan, CEO of Entrepreneurs Unlocked, said: “This funding from the National Lottery Awards will have a transformative impact on the lives of individuals both in prison and on probation.
“By equipping participants with entrepreneurial skills and confidence, we are helping them to build brighter futures, reduce the risk of re-offending, and contribute positively to their communities.”
He added: “Entrepreneurship offers a powerful pathway to independence and success, and we’re incredibly proud to be expanding this opportunity to even more people.”
The initiative will leverage the lived experience of Entrepreneurs Unlocked Ambassadors, who have successfully launched their own businesses after prison.
These ambassadors will co-deliver sessions, sharing their stories to inspire and motivate participants.
Their involvement ensures the programme is relatable, impactful, and tailored to the unique challenges faced by participants.
