Law firm Bermans has made three strategic hires to bolster its litigation, asset-based lending recoveries and private client teams.

Mike Carter, Adam Tiesteel and Jobeth Copping-Barrett are all based in Bermans’ Manchester office.

Their arrival continues the firm’s expansion following the recent appointments of property partner Usha Sharma, corporate partner Paul Edels and paralegal Paul Rabbette at the Liverpool office.

Mike has joined Bermans as a litigation partner from Slater Heelis. He has more than 15 years’ litigation and dispute resolution experience.

Mike is recognised as a recommended lawyer in The Legal 500 directory and is a member of the Professional Negligence Lawyers Association.

Jobeth has joined Bermans as a senior associate in the private client department after moving from Sinclair Law. She supports clients on their future and estate planning, including the preparation of wills, lasting power of attorney applications, trusts, probate applications and estate administration.

Adam has joined as an associate in the ABL recoveries team from Greenhalgh Kerr Solicitors. He qualified as a solicitor in 2020 and has focused on recoveries and enforcement since completing his legal practice course in 2018.

Sean Thomson

Specialist asset-based lender, Ultimate Finance, has strengthened its team in key areas of the business as it looks to continue its mission to support the ambitions of UK businesses with cashflow to keep their business moving.

The Northern sales team sees the addition of Sean Thomson and Richard Leathley, both of whom have more than 20 years’ experience and held senior positions within their previous organisations.

Sean said: “Ultimate Finance is extremely forward thinking in their breadth of proposition, and I am excited about presenting their flexible funding to my network of valued introducers.”

Peter Wilkinson

Housebuilder Castle Green Homes has welcomed Peter Wilkinson to the new role of commercial manager at its Preston Brook office.

He said: “I was brought in to manage the commercial department in the North West. My role will include providing commercial input into land bids, Partnership agreements, procuring subcontractors and supplier agreements. We have quite a diverse team, including some people in the early stages of their careers who I’ll be supporting and sharing my experience with, along with providing leadership.”

Prior to joining Castle Green, Peter worked for Redrow for more than 20 years, progressing from trainee quantity surveyor to commercial manager. 

Castle Green is headquartered in St Asaph, has an office at Preston Brook and live development sites across North Wales and the North West of England.

Russel Greenwood

Russel Greenwood has joined Clancy Consulting as Divisional Director.

Based in Clancy’s Manchester and Leeds offices, Chartered Engineer Russel will be providing experienced building services engineering to the multi-disciplinary consultancy.

Director, Scott Lydon, who oversees building services engineering practice-wide at Clancy, said: “Russel will be instrumental in expanding our MEP offering across the Yorkshire region and the wider M62 corridor, working closely with our established multidiscipline teams in Leeds and Manchester.

“Demonstrating proven skills in leadership, project and technical knowledge, and client relationship management, we warmly welcome him to the team and the board and I look forward to supporting his career development here at Clancy.”

Russel’s appointment follows Nick Barringer taking the post of Technical Director in the Manchester office in autumn last year.

Josh Malyan

Advisory firm Bamburgh Capital has hired Josh Malyan as an Associate in the Manchester office.

He previously worked at boutique firm Vertex and before that in private equity with Maven Capital Partners.

Bamburgh expects to make several further hires over the course of 2025 as it builds on the current positive momentum being seen in the business across a range of sectors.

Fletchers Group has announced the promotion of four senior colleagues who will become Managing Directors. 

The promotions recognise the critical contribution that each of them has made to the group and reflects Fletchers’ need to expand its leadership capacity as it continues its rapid growth.

The new MDs are: Caroline Morris (Serious Injury Law), Peter Rigby (Clinical Negligence), Georgia Briscoe (Medical Law Services) and Charlene Mann (New Acquisitions and Scott Rees & Co).

The newly promoted Managing Directors will join Peter Haden, Alex Lynch, Adrian Denson, Alex Kenny and Zoe Holland as part of the Executive Committee, the senior leadership team running the group.

Liverpool-based international commercial law firm, Hill Dickinson, has appointed Paddy Dwyer to the firm’s Commercial TMT and IP team in its Liverpool office.  

With more than 17 years’ experience advising on a wide range of commercial matters, Dwyer brings significant expertise to the firm spanning all aspects of commercial law across a variety of industry sectors.  

Dwyer joins from DLA Piper, where he worked predominantly on strategic sourcing arrangements, complex distribution strategies, large public sector outsourcings and transformation programmes for a large variety of clients.

Fiona Parry, head of Business Services at Hill Dickinson, said: “As we enter 2025, we are focused on continuing to build on the significant growth we have achieved within our Business Services offering over the last year.
