Job losses at paper plate manufacturer Boardlink after supplier cuts off raw materials

A Flintshire family-owned business that manufactures carton board sheeting, board lamination and paper plates, ready meal trays and industrial-grade wipes has appointed administrators after a supplier abruptly cut a contract.
With little notice, the directors were unable to find a supplier in time that could support a business of its size. They were left with no option but to take the difficult decision to cease trading and appoint administrators to the business.
Rick Harrison and James Clark from Interpath were appointed as Joint Administrators to Boardlink Limited on Friday 4 April 2025.
The business, which was established in 1966, operated from its site in Hawarden, Flintshire, and employed 65 people.
While Boardlink was profitable and traded well, the cutting of the supplier deal meant 51 staff were made redundant.
Interpath are now urgently seeking offers for the business and have retained 14 members of staff to assist them in their statutory duties while they seek offers.
Rick Harrison, Managing Director at Interpath and Joint Administrator at Boardlink Limited, said: “The administration of Boardlink has come as a tremendous shock to everyone at the company. It had long been a proud and thriving family business, but through no fault of its own, had the rug pulled out from under it. We’re now seeking offers for the business and we encourage any interested parties to come forward as quickly as possible.
“Our priority is to support staff through this difficult time. We’ve deployed a specialist team on site that is providing assistance and will help make representations to the Redundancy Payment Service.”
