Region’s businesses could save £438m in energy costs

BUSINESSES in the North West could save more than £400m by tackling energy costs, the Carbon Trust says.

The organisation, which is launching a campaign in Manchester to persuade British businesses to stop wasting £3bn on energy a year, said the savings could be gained by companies taking a free Carbon Survey.

The survey, available to all businesses that spend between £50,000 and £3m on energy each year, typically identifies potential savings on energy costs of between 20% and 30%.

The Carbon Trust estimates that if all eligible businesses in Manchester signed up for the free Carbon Survey they could collectively save £75m in energy costs and 640,000 tonnes of carbon a year

If all eligible businesses in the North West signed up, they could save £438m a year.

Businesses spending less than £50,000 can access free, expert advice via a new Cut Carbon, Cut Costs online tutorial at www.carbontrust.co.uk/onlinetraining.

Since 2006, the Carbon Trust has delivered over £180m in energy savings to British businesses through its Carbon Surveys.
