Growth in turnover and profits at engineering group WEC
Lancashire-based fabrication and engineering group WEC has increased its pre-tax profits to £9.66m up from £9.2m last year.
According to accounts filed by WEC Group Holdings, turnover across the group increased from £127.8m to £148.6m.
In June we reported that Darwen-based WEC is recruiting for over 120 roles, including expanding its apprenticeship intake across the group.
The headcount increased to over 1,000 according to the annual report.
The company has secured major contract wins and increasing demand across its UK manufacturing operations.
Its WEC Rail division has worked on a number of projects with Network Rail, including the contracted Overhead Line Electrification project between Rugeley to Walsall, which was for ABC Electrification. The project included manufacturing, storage and supply of 900 base plate and lattice electrification masts.
The company, which operates across 10 manufacturing sites in Blackburn with Darwen, Rotherham, Knowsley, Coventry, Sherburn-in-Elmet and Bournemouth, says its outlook remains extremely positive, supported by a strong pipeline of work and continued investment in people, facilities, technology and advanced manufacturing capability.
In comments at the start of the annual report and accounts, director Steve Hartley said: “The business has had another good year, increasing both turnover and operating profit. There is a great deal of optimism about further future growth opportunities, and future success will continue to be grounded in upholding ongoing exceptional levels of customer service, product quality and value for money offerings in the market.”
The company has recruited apprentices across their Darwen and Rotherham based sites and in Welding & Fabrication, Laser Cutting & Press Brake and Business Administration.
IN 2024 WEC acquired Laser Profiles, a precision laser cutting business based near Bournemouth, Dorset, for a cash payment of £253,714, which it said was part of a long-term growth strategy to extend across the UK.
The company’s owner is Britannia Metals Holdings Ltd, a company registered in the USA.
