CHESHIRE investment business Worthington Group has denied it is preparing to sell part of a property it owns in Yorkshire.

The AIM-listed business is a cash shell which owns five acres in the centre of Keighley and also holds a stake in a Derby-based textiles firm.

A local newspaper reported the Wilmslow company was in talks with local authorities over the sale of three acres to be used for a health centre. Part of the land is vacant but it also houses old mill buildings.

In a statement Worthington’s chairman Joe Dwek said: “The company continues to assess proposals as and when identified or received and also notes the recent press comment surrounding a potential neighbouring redevelopment project, one of whose options may seek to utilise part of the company’s Keighley site, but the board of the company confirms that it is not currently in discussions with any party in relation to any transaction.”

Mr Dwek also noted recent share price movements – up from 4p to 13p this month – and the purchase of shares by Surrey-based Regenesis Holdings which has built up a 12.75% holding.
