Sharewatch: WH Ireland chief buys

THE chief executive of the Manchester stockbroker WH Ireland has beefed up his holding in the firm.

Earlier this week Richard Ford spent £28,000 on 73,000 shares in the company at 38.5p each.

The shares will be held in his self invested personal pension.

Following the transaction Mr Ford has 223,000 ordinary shares representing, or 1.06% of the company.

On Tuesday WH Ireland said it had trimmed annual losses by £400,000 to £2.1m after axing more than 40 jobs in what was described as a “particularly difficult year” for the stockbrokers.

The AIM-listed firm said turnover in the year to the end of last November had fallen 8.2% to £24.6m as a result of a “drought” of corporate finance deals such as AIM flotations and a general lack of confidence in the market.
