SRA shuts down consumer credit law firm

A Manchester law firm that specialised in consumer credit claims has been shut down by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA).

The SRA said it had taken action against Consumer Credit Litigation Solicitors (CCLS) to safeguard clients’ documents and money.

It has appointed Gordons of Bradford to handle the files.

CCLS is owned by Richard Burley of Nottinghamshire and Warrington-based Carl Wright, pictured below, who also owns Cartel Client Review, a financial claims management company which is based at the same offices.

Earlier this month the Ministry of Justice confirmed it was investigating Cartel Client Review after receiving complaints from the public.

Claims management companies, like Cartel, receive commission for passing claims on to law firms which then pursue them through the courts. Cartel and CCLS specialise in trying to free claimants from credit card debt.carl wright Cartel

CCLS also traded as Burleys Solicitors of Newark, Nottinghamshire, which has also been closed down. A separate agent has been appointed to handle the files.

Advice for clients of CCLS is available on the SRA website at www.sra.org.uk.
