Five compete for entrepreneurs’ prize

FIVE businessmen from the North West are among the 40 finalists who have been shortlisted for Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year awards set to take place on October 3 at London’s Park Lane hotel.

The local entrants in the running for the award are Bryan Bodek of Wythenshawe-based Airline Services Holdings, Charles Sharland of Warrington-based software company AppSense; Steve Oliver and Walter Gleeson of Macclesfield-based Entertainment Magpie; Fircroft Engineering Services’ CEO Johnathan Johnson and Globus (Shetland) managing director Haraldur Agustsson.

The successful winner of the overall UK prize will then be put forward for a World Entrepreneur of the Year final which will be held in Monte Carlo next year.

Elaine O’Donnell, partner at Ernst & Young, said: “During these tough economic times, the importance of our entrepreneurs cannot be overstated.

“These entrepreneurs are undoubtedly the UK’s economic success story, continuing to deliver innovation, growth and jobs, and promoting British brands overseas.

“These businessmen and women also provide cause for optimism: they see opportunity where others only see risk and they succeed even in the toughest of conditions.”
