My Pets Vets opens in former pub

VET Caroline Purnell has launched her own practice in Leigh after transforming an empty pub into a veterinary surgery.

Caroline and her husband Lloyd Davies have established My Pets’ Vets in the former Red Brick Inn pub on Twist Lane in Leigh after borrowing £270,000 from RBS to help to buy and redevelop the site.

Purnell trained at the Royal Veterinary College in London and has 12 years experience having previously worked at practices in West Yorkshire and Greater Manchester.

She said: “We’ve been looking for the right place for a long time, when we found the Red Brick Inn the location and the premises were perfect.

“It’s taken a lot of hard work, but it’s been worth it and we’re really looking forward to welcoming our first customers and their pets.”

Purnell has taken on two veterinary nurses to work in the business.

Adrian Taylor, relationship manager with RBS, said: “We are delighted to provide financial support to help Caroline launch this business.

“She has conducted a significant amount of research before approaching the bank and presented a very thorough business plan.  We wish her well in this venture.”
