Greggs’ £4.5m Penrith site up and running

HIGH street bakery chain Greggs said this morning that its new £4.5m bakery at Penrith in Cumbria had been completed on time and to budget, and is now fully operational.
The site, which employs around 100 staff, supplies cake products such as flapjacks and Rocky Road bars to the Newcastle-upon-Tyne company’s network of 1,540 stores.
The company said that the site would deliver “significant improvements in our efficiency and our capacity for future growth”.
Greggs also announced that sales in the third quarter of its financial year to October 1 had increased by 5.4%.
Chief executive Ken McKeikan said: “Our investment and expansion programmes are on track and the financial position of the business is strong.
“We continue to believe that Greggs is well placed to deliver long term profitable growth.”
