1,000 more BBC staff to move to MediaCity

A FURTHER 1,000 BBC jobs will move to the new northern hub at MediaCityUK, the corporation said today.

The BBC3 channel and the popular Radio 4 programme ‘You and Yours’ will be among the second-wave of staff moving to MediaCity by the end of 2017as part of cost saving plans.

The BBC plans to save £670m over the next five years due to a licence fee freeze until 2017 agreed with the government. Some 2,000 jobs will also be cut over the next six years, while budget cuts mean sharing rights to sports such as Formula 1.

In a statement the BBC said: “At least another 1,000 staff will move to Salford by the end of the Charter (2016-17). The majority will come from corporate and support divisions but there will be some additional programme moves, including You and Yours.

“After a period of intense focus on developing and co-ordinating the portfolio of television channels, BBC Three will move to Salford by the end of the Charter.”
