NW FD of the Year Awards: Celebrating success in a changing market
THE inaugural North West Finance Director of the Year Awards will celebrate the high profile role that FDs of Limited Companies play.
Due to the changing economic climate the role of FDs has had to adapt and become more strategic in its nature.
Many FDs are no longer seen as number crunchers but key drivers of the business’s strategy and an integral part of the planning process. In this category the judges are looking for finance directors who are team players and able to make informed financial decisions which take into account the customer, the strategy, the risks, the people, processes and systems necessary to effect them.
The ‘Best Finance Director of a Ltd company’ will this year be spilt into two; Best Finance Director of a Ltd company (turnover under £50m) and Best Finance Director of a Ltd company (turnover over £50m).
These awards will be part of six that will be contested in October in categories designed to showcase the breadth of talent among finance directors in the region.
Alastair Nuttall, a partner at Ernst & Young in the North West, said: “The awards are launching in the North West for the first time this year after 10 years of success in Yorkshire.
“Finance Directors are playing an increasingly pivotal role in businesses in the North West and the rest of the country and deserve to be recognised for their contribution.”

The full list of categories in the 2011 awards are:
•best finance director of a plc;
•best finance director of a Ltd company (up to £50m turnover);
•best finance director of a Ltd company (over £50m turnover);
•best finance director of a private equity company;
•young finance director of the year (up to 40 years of age);
•outstanding achievement award.
Judging will take place between October and November with the North West black tie awards dinner being held at The Hilton Hotel, Manchester on November 29th.
