Samling sale raises cash for creditors

ONE of the best-known country house hotels in the Lake District has been sold in a deal worth almost £6m.

The Samling was sold to a private buyer by Christie + Co on behalf of Ernst & Young as administrators of the Von Essen hotel chain. It follows the sale of four other former Von Essen hotels to Bath Priory Ltd.

The Samling is an 11-bedroom hotel occupying a secluded country estate on an elevated site close to Lake Windermere.

Martin Davis, director and location manager at Christie + Co, said: “The von Essen portfolio has stimulated tremendous national and international interest. We are delighted to have concluded a successful sale on another of the assets.

“The Samling is a fine hotel, whose new owners are looking to invest and grow the business over the coming years.”
