Media veterans form Gordon Burns Partnership

THREE of the region’s most experienced journalists have launched a new media venture fronted by the recently-retired BBC North West Tonight anchor Gordon Burns.

The veteran broadcaster has teamed up with former Manchester Evening News editor Paul Horrocks and ex BBC North West chief Martin Brooks to launch the Gordon Burns Partnership.

Between them the trio has more than a century of journalism experience, which they will employ in the new venture which focuses on business communications, reputation management and behaviour-change campaigns in the public and private sector.

Gordon Burns said: “We each have a lifetime’s experience across television, print, radio and media management – and we know what the media requires and how to deliver.

“Our main objective is to provide campaigns and reputation protection. We also give advice on how to engage with the media.“

Burns from Hale, hosts a Sunday morning current affairs programme broadcast across BBC Radio Manchester and Radio Lancashire.

Horrocks, recently appointed as Deputy Lieutenant of Greater Manchester and chairman of NHS Bury, set up his own Bury based PR firm  Essential Communications after leaving the MEN.

He said: “This gives us the opportunity to bid for bigger contracts and we have the mix of journalism experience to deal with any request. We have the skills and know-how across different media platforms, at the sharp end.”

After leaving the BBC Saddleworth-based Martin Brooks set up his own media consultancy with clients including Salford University.

He added: “Our combined knowledge and contacts across the North West put us in a strong position. MediaCity UK will generate many opportunities over the coming years and we can help companies to join that revolution and show them how to make the most of new challenges.“
