Chamber calls on government to resolve rising fuel costs

A LEADING chamber of commerce based in the North West has warned that the next government needs to take action to stabilise the ever-increasing cost of fuel.
North and Western Lancashire Chamber of Commerce has warned that the fluctuation in fuel prices is currently having a bad impact on its members – and particularly haulage companies.
Chief executive Babs Murphy said: “We are calling for the party who forms the next government to work in discussion with industry towards a long-term solution for dealing with fluctuations in world oil prices, and their consequent impact on UK fuel prices.
“With escalating world oil prices driving up the cost of fuel in the UK, any haulage company that has been operating at the margins of profitability – just hanging in there – will not be able to withstand the rising fuel prices.”
