Seddon invests in solar panels

SEDDON Construction has invested £120,000 to install solar panels on the roof of its Bolton head office.

The investment will help the family-owned company to save energy and cut its carbon footprint – the panels will enable Seddon to reduce its CO2 emissions by 21.1 tonnes each year.

More than 190  panels have been mounted on the roof of the Plodder Lane offices, Seddon’s UK headquarters. Their photo-voltaic cells capture the sun’s energy – even on cloudy days – and convert it into electricity.

The 49.0 kWp installation will produce some 40,258 kilowatt hours of electricity annually for Seddon.

Through the government’s Feed-in Tariff scheme – which is soon to be reduced  – Seddon will receive income for the electricity generated and for surplus energy it exports back to the National Grid.

Jonathan Seddon, managing director of Seddon Construction said: ““The PV panels will generate electricity for the Bolton office as well as enabling us to reduce the energy we use.

“Taking a proactive approach to cutting our carbon emissions in this way is a key part of our strategy as a responsible business with a strong commitment to sustainability.”

Seddon Construction is part of the national Seddon Group, £250m turnover group specialising in construction, maintenance and housebuilding.
