Cardinal Maritime sets sail for increased profits

FREIGHT forwarding company Cardinal Maritime is in full sail after revealing record profits of £1.2m in 2009 despite a fall in turnover.
The company, based on Manchester’s Sharston Industrial Estate, has seen last year’s pre-tax profits rise from £700,000 in 2008.
Over the same period, its turnover fell to £30m from £36m which it attributes to the effects of the global recession.
The company has implemented cost-saving measures across its estate to make the savings.
Established 11 years ago with a loan of £5,000, it specialises in moving freight around the world via container ships, and operates an online booking system allowing customers to hire as much space as they require.
