Lufhansa to add sixth Manchester route

GERMAN carrier Lufthansa is to add a sixth route from Manchester with a Berlin service beginning next June.
The launch of the route will take the airline’s total weekly flights from Manchester to more than 100. It already flies to Munich, Frankfurt, Dusseldorf, Hamburg and Stuttgart.
The new daily service between Manchester and Berlin will coincide with the opening of the new Berlin-Brandenburg “Willy Brandt” Airport in June 2012.
The maiden flight will be on June 3 and will be operated by a Airbus 320 aircraft.
Karsten Benz, Lufthansa vice president, sales and services Europe, said: “The addition of direct flights to Berlin reaffirms the importance of Manchester within the Lufthansa network.
“The opening of the new Berlin-Brandenburg ‘Willy Brandt’ Airport next year provides new opportunities for Lufthansa to increase its offering to Manchester passengers.
Prices will start at £39 for one-way economy class, with business class fares starting from £259 one-way and £519 return.
