Symphony commits £64m to affordable homes scheme

A NORTH West group of social housing firms has announced that it will commit £64m over the next four years towards building 575 new homes under the government’s affordable homes scheme.

Symphony, which is an umbrella organisation for Cobalt Housing, Contour Homes Liverpool Housing Trust and Peak Valley Housing Association, said the new properties were being built in addition to the 328 properties it already has in its development pipeline.

The organisation has received £12.1m from the Homes and Communities Agency to assist with the building of affordable homes for rent and shared ownership, which is part of a £1.8bn pot set aside for the construction of 80,000 new homes.

Symphony Housing Group chief executive Phil Gandy said: “The important thing in the current climate is that we are building and will continue to build much-needed new housing to help meet the increasing demand for affordable homes.

“We are very grateful for the allocation from the Homes & Communities Agency and the confidence that has been shown in our capability to deliver these new homes.”
