Open air theatre will bring £1m boost to Chester economy

PLANS for the 350-seat open air theatre in Chester have been revealed.
The new theatre at Grosvenor Park will boost the city’s economy by at least £1m, according to Cheshire West and Chester Council, which has invested £100,000 in the project.
The council said it sees the theatre as the first stage towards the authority’s goal of seeing Chester created City of Culture in 2017.
Council leader Mike Jones said: “We also see this as a significant step towards delivering our ambition to create a permanent theatre for Chester.”
Chester- based architects Lovelock Mitchell designed the horseshoe shaped theatre, which will have terrace seats surrounding the stage and an area in front for audiences to enjoy picnics.
Grosvenor Park will stage its first season from July 15 to August 8, for performances of Shakespeare’s Much Ado About Nothing and a new play, Hercules, for families.
