Merseyside’s new £5m golf course finally tees off

THE long awaited opening of the £5m North West National golf course in Rainford, Merseyside, is to go ahead later this month after a series of setbacks.

During the last five years, Glenn Turner, director of golf at the North West National, has battled against the elements and severe economic setbacks during the recession, to bring to fruition one of the region’s newest and most challenging golf courses.

SKY TV presenter and record-breaking golfer, Glenn, opened a nine hole golf course academy in August last year at The North West National but progress on the 18 hole course was also hampered by some of the worst weather conditions seen.

Subsequently, two contractors working on the development of the course and the clubhouse went into administration.

But by working round the clock, seven-days a week, the management team and Glenn have now delivered a championship golf course, which is fully operational.

Glenn said: “Both Martin Turner who is a director of the North West National, and I are pleased to see the fruits of our labours come to fruition after all the barriers we’ve had to overcome.

“We’ve had great support from our members and a supplier, which has helped us deliver a truly wonderful course to play on, giving golfers a course which will test their abilities to the maximum.”

The 18 hole course will finally open for business on Saturday, May 29.
