Recruiter quits after email storm

A SENIOR recruiter at Manchester-based recruitment firm Stark Brooks has quit his job after sending an offensive reply to a mass email from a potential candidate.

Gary Chaplin resigned from the firm following the incident, in which he is reported to have used a pseudonym to criticise jobseeker Manos Katsampoukas for sending his CV to thousands of people in the recruitment industry.

Newspaper reports state that he replied to the 4,000 people on the mailing list, but Mr Chaplin said that the response was initially only sent to a much smaller group of people before subsequently being redistributed.

“I made a mistake, but it’s been grossly exaggerated,” he told TheBusinessDesk.com.

Mr Chaplin has been responsible for recruiting a number of finance directors for North West plcs and is a well-known figure among Manchester’s business community.

He recently led a team of 30 cyclists which raised more than £12,500 on a 200-mile charity bike ride from London to Manchester for Manchester Children’s Hospital’s Many Hands campaign.
