‘Business as usual’ at Stretford Mall

THE receivers of Manchester’s Stretford Mall have reassured shoppers and tenants that it is business as usual as the property’s future is considered.

Richard Stanley and Jemma McAndrew of Jones Lang LaSalle were appointed as Joint Law of Property Act Receivers of the shopping centre in March.

The long-term future of Stretford Mall is now being reviewed by Aviva, which appointed Jones Lang LaSalle.

The insurance giant has instigated two meetings with representatives of the council to discuss a strategy for the shopping centre.

The receivers are looking to work in partnership with the council to find a solution that best suits Stretford Mall and its local community.

Jemma McAndrew said: “It is very much business as usual at Stretford Mall which continues to trade as normal.

“Indeed, since the new management team has been appointed we have received interest from several new retailers looking to take space in the centre, which we are actively pursuing.

“A number of strategic options are currently being reviewed, to ensure that value to the Mall and the community can be added.

“It is in all parties’ interests to ensure that the Mall is actively managed to ensure that the asset continues to improve moving forward.

“No sale has been agreed or is being considered to date.

“We are investing in Stretford Mall and have a new marketing campaign in place to raise the centre’s profile locally.

“This has been presented to the tenants and we are working together to ensure its success.”

Previously known as the Stretford Arndale the mall is home to  discount retailers including Poundland, Quality Save, Wilkinson, T J Hughes, as well as budget clothing retailers Bon Marche and Peacocks.

It has suffered as some retail occupiers have entered administration and struggled to find new tenants.
