IoD urges Manchester businesses to think globally

THE chairman of the Institute of Directors in the North West has urged the region’s entrepreneurs to seize new international investment opportunities.
Ann Jordan believes the time is right for business leaders to consider turning to global markets, which she says are experiencing a gradual but encouraging recovery from the widespread economic downturn.
Her comments follow research from payment providers Custom House, which shows the productivity of businesses can increase by 34% in the first year of international trading.
The figures also show businesses are 12% more likely to survive with international investment, and are 75% more innovative than domestic companies.
Ms Jordan said: “Entrepreneurs in the North West have shown an incredible amount of resilience over the past two years, with some businesses in the region thriving despite difficult conditions.
“However, it’s becoming increasingly clear with recent findings that there now exists great opportunity in foreign investment for businesses of all sizes. This is particularly the case with those that strive with innovation and work hard to find new ways to grow their businesses.”
The IoD is holding a free seminar on international investment and global trading. Gaining Big by Going Global will take place on Wednesday June 16, at the Crowne Plaza in Manchester from 7.45am. For more information contact Andrea Lowe on 0161 209 3150, or email iod.northwest@iod.com.
