Liverpool taxi firm buys up rival

LIVERPOOL taxi firm Britannia Radio Cars Merseyside has bought rival firm Sapphire Cars, making it one of the largest cab operators in Prescot and Whiston.
The deal, for an undisclosed sum, increases Britannia’s fleet by 44 drivers, giving it more than 300 cars in total and will also see Britannia take on the Sapphire trading name and contracts.
Formed 16 years ago, Britannia operates from Brookbridge Garage in Prescot and employs 30 staff.
Co-founder Jimmy Aden said: “Sapphire has a good name and reputation in the local market and we are very pleased to bring them and Britannia Radio Cars together. Our main priority is to provide customers with a fast, reliable and efficient service and we will continue do this via the enlarged business.”
The deal has been funded by NatWest’s Business & Commercial banking team in St Helens with a European Investment Bank loan.
