Hollins Murray goes shopping in Wigan
DEVELOPER Hollins Murray has bought the Winstanley shopping precinct in Wigan.
The Altrincham-based company bought the property out of receivership for an undisclosed sum, beating 10 other bidders. The 12,000 sq ft centre has 11 units occupied by a mix of local traders and national retailers including Boots and the Co-operative.
“When I got the details through, I thought it must be in quite a grotty condition and not in a very good location,” said Hollins Murray’s chief executive, Nick Casson.
“It is in quite a dilapidated precinct, but it’s in a very good location – the estate is one of the more affluent ones in Wigan.
“The only issue with it was the state of the property itself. It needs a bit of TLC.”
Mr Casson said that the company, which already owns the Gerrard Centre in Wigan and a nearby industrial unit on Caxton Close, said that Hollins Murray would soon begin with a programme of refurbishing the existing units and would look to extend the centre at a later date.
