Jobs go as Wetrok closes Warrington division

A SWISS manufacturer of industrial floor cleaning equipment has decided to wind up its UK operation with the loss of 35 jobs.
Wetrok AG has called in administrators from the Manchester office of accountancy firm Grant Thornton to handle its Warrington-based subsidiary.
The division was set up to service and maintain equipment sold into the UK by its parent.
But joint administrator Matt Dunham said it struggled to get a foothold in the UK market.
He said: “The Swiss had funded it for a number of years and came to the conclusion they couldn’t continue to support it. We’ve been working with them to try and find the gentlest way of winding it down.”
The administrators have sold on some maintenance contracts and made 25 staff redundant. The remaining 10 will be let go by the end of July. The firm’s largest creditor is understood to be its parent company.
Wetrok was established in 1955. It opened its UK business in 1980 and now employs 1,000 people in 35 countries.
