Sales and profits up at Bollin Group

BOLLIN Group, the Cheshire-based manufacturer and wholesaler of premium branded consumer products and outdoor clothing, grew sales and profits last year despite the challenging trading environment.
Newly-filed accounts for the privately-owned Macclesfield company, whose main subsidiary is Burton McCall – a multi-channel distribution service for premium branded products – show turnover in the year to the end of June 2011 rising from £50.8m to £55.7m.
Profits rose by around 15% from £1.7m to £2m in the period, which directors said was “in line with expectations.”
As well as the products the group distributes through Leicester-based Burton McCall – Maglite torches and Swiss Army knives are among the best known – Bollin also owns several outdoor and sports brands such as sock specialist Bridgedale, Mountain Equipment, running clothing brand Ronhill, Sprayway, and Hilly Clothing, which are distributed internationally.
In terms of turnover overseas expansion was the key driver with revenues rising 25% to £10.7m. In the UK growth was up 6% from £42.2m to £44.8m
During the year Bollin sold both its Park Rose business, which makes ceramic lighting and other gift, and the John Partridge clothing brand.
It signed distribution deals with beverage container specialist Aladdin Stanley, Luminox Watches and Magellan handheld GPS instruments.
It said it expects trading this year to continue to be challenging.
